Wonder Girls reach No. 76 on Billboard chart
"Korean pop group Wonder Girls have become the first Korean artists to enter the Billboard singles chart, according to their agency JYP Entertainment on Thursday.
The group's single "Nobody" entered the Billboard Hot100 at No. 76, the first time for a Korean artist to be placed on the chart in its thirty-year history. Only three other artists from Asia as a whole have ever made it onto the chart.
The Billboard chart combines the number of airplays, album sales and digital downloads.
Earlier in the week, JYP had announced that according to an airplay analysis chart by music website Mediabase, "Nobody" was played over 65 times by radio stations between October 12 to 18, increasing the group's airplay ranking by 16 spots from the previous week to No. 107.
"Nobody" was also the top-selling single for the same week with 30,418 copies, outselling pop stars Madonna and Shakira.
The girl group, who announced their U.S. debut in June, signed with management company Jonas Group and had been opening for popular boy band The Jonas Brothers U.S. tour over the summer. They performed in front of over 1.5 million fans in 42 cities over 53 performances.
"It was good targeting U.S. teenagers because they don't discriminate," an official at JYP Entertainment was quoted as saying. "And it was absolutely effective to target the U.S. market with a Korean concept and song without the help of American producers and songwriters."
The five-member girl band, who debuted in Korea in 2007, is one of the most successful pop groups in the country with three consecutive No. 1 singles, "Tell Me", "So Hot", and "Nobody"."

Never thought I would see the day, and I certainly wasn't expecting it to be the Wonder Girls. It was genius though, their strategy to ride the Jonas Brothers popularity wave. They're the one group that didn't change themselves in order to break into the American market. Congrats to them!

Beckii Cruel in Japan say whaaaaat
The latest focus of Japanese otaku types is a 14-year-old English girl who calls herself Beckii Cruel. The Isle of Man native has developed a growing fan base from the videos that she started posting on YouTube in March. Most of them feature her dancing in her bedroom to J-Pop and anime tunes. Media hype here has compared her to another recent import, Leah Dizon (though their looks and otaku appeal are about the only similarity), and her videos on the local NicoNico Douga site have been viewed over 3 million times. She recently performed at the Enta Matsuri in Tokyo's otaku mecca of Akihabara (photo), with some 600 fans turning up to show their support. Not one to miss out on a commercial opportunity, a DVD ("This is Beckii Cruel") is due for release on December 19th.

Personally, I think she dances like a soulless muppet, but that's just my opinion, so don't find out where I live and throw eggs at my house (or worse) thanks. D8 There is no fluidity in her movements, and she has no facial expressions (is it just me, or are they just always the same???). If you compare the dancing group ichiP! to her, you just go WOW, they are so much better. They dance with feeling. Just watch the difference (watch for: FLUID MOVEMENTS, like BAM BAM BAM, DANCE WITH FEELING, blah blah):
I basically get flailing of arms and disorganized movements. Anyway, I hope she gets lessons on the Japanese language (As you will see below, and many wishes of luck with that to her, did you know the jesuits thought Japanese was created by the devil??) and dance lessons. The comparison with Leah Dizon is only because they are both imports (imported goods!).
Conclusion? I think we should all start uploading ourselves dancing to some music. HURRY UP PEOPLE! Gotta make our debuts in Japan since it's apparently so damn easy!!!! Oh, but you have to have yummy legs (like Uruhahaha) and be giggly and generally clueless so Japan will eat you alive (this can be both good and bad). It's all good fun. =)

Forget crop circles, aliens have a new form of communication!! ... Oh wait, nevermind, it's just the Japanese at it again...
Every year, since 1993, Inakadate’s 8000 residents and farmers have worked together to create huge agricultural works of art in their rice paddy fields. Using green, purple and yellow-leafed rice, the “agri-artists” design and plant their rice, precisely plotting out the colours which bring the images to life. As the rice grows, the art becomes apparent from an elevated position, with the best viewing time in July.
More than 150,000 people visit Inakadate yearly to experience the rice paddy art, climbing the 22 metre high mock castle tower of the village office that overlooks the fields. Each year, residents choose a different theme - 2009’s is the Napoleon, Sengoku-period warrior, and fictional warrior and his wife Naoe Kanetsugu and Osen.
In 2008, the resident designers began using computers to plot their works, saving them time and allowing for increased detail in the images. While Inakadate is the most widely known for this art, their idea has caught on and other farming communities are creating their own field art, some with the help of the Inakadate designers who have been requested to give seminars on their methods of design and planting.Alas, the rice field art will only be visible until September when the rice will be harvested, leaving residents to think about next year’s creations.
